Laser Treatment
When people usually talk about laser treatments, they are actually referring to two different techniques. The first technique is called laser while the second one is called intense pulsed light. Each of these techniques has different applications when it comes to laser treatment. However, both techniques work pretty much the same way. The skin receives bursts of light using either technique.
Laser Technique
This is the first technique used in laser treatment. One of the most common uses or applications of this technique is the removal of tattoos. Using this technique, a beam breaks down the tattoo pigment into smaller sections which the human body can easily flush away. There are other applications of this technique as well.
Other than tattoo removal, this technique is also used for hair reduction. Using this method, hair follicles are made to absorb light energy. This will then produce enough heat to disrupt or damage the growth of hair. This in turn prevents new hair growths to occur.
IPL Technique
The characteristic difference of IPL method from the laser method is that IPL uses broadband light. Given this characteristic, the IPL method can be used to treat different targets. It can be used to treat blemishes and veins at varying skin depths. This makes this mode of laser treatment quite versatile.
Using this technique, doctors are given the opportunity to treat large areas of the body rather quickly. As with the examples given above, these techniques are applied in hair removal, anti-ageing, and skin treatment.
Skin Treatment
The first application of laser treatments is for the treatment of the skin. This form of treatment has become quite popular nowadays. They are used to remove age spots, skin blemishes, rosacea, and acne scars. Either of the two aforementioned techniques can be used for skin treatment.
Anti-Ageing Treatment
If ever you have heard of photorejuvenation and skin resurfacing, these are examples of treatments using lasers. Skin resurfacing simply means that a laser is used to remove a layer from off the patient’s skin. The skin will naturally heal after the treatment. The result is that the new skin will have fewer scars, wrinkles, or blemishes. In order to achieve the best results, this treatment is to be repeated several times over.
Photorejuvenation on the other hand simply means using a laser to stimulate the production of the skin’s collagen. The effect is that the skin appears to become more plump making wrinkles and fine lines less visible.
Both IPL and laser techniques are used for hair removal. These are actually the most popular of all the laser treatments out there. The length of treatment for hair removal will actually vary. Expect longer treatment for areas where there is active hair growth. In spite of its successes, doctors can’t give you a 100% guarantee that the hair won’t grow back again.
